Stats/Counters
My counter, as well as my primary source for site statistics, comes from Site Meter. I also have access to statistics and logs from the server.
I get certain basic information like what operating and web browsers my visitors are using. I don't collect or monitor this information - SiteMeter only keeps information for 100 visits, which I go through in about two days. I just use this information to give me an idea how to tailor my site to fit the requirements of my visitors.
The exact same information is available to whoever has access to the server logs for any website you visit. It's not anything you particularly need to worry about - I don't have access to your email address, your real last name, or the name of your first pet. ;)
I don't use my Yahoo address book. You can send me an email in absolute confidence that I will not be adding you to my "spam me and send me viruses" list. I only keep track of emails for contests, anyway.
Contests
When you enter one of my contests, I ask you to tell me your name and URL. You don't have to give me a URL if you don't want to, and you can use a pseudonym or nickname (or just plain lie) if you like. I don't ask or expect you to tell me your real name.
When you send me an email with your entry, I will make a note of your email address in my little entry spreadsheet (not in my address book). If you want me to use a different address to contact you in the future, you can tell me that.
I will use your email address to contact you to let you know that I have received your entry and if there are any problems. I also send out two emails to all of the entrants to any contest (except when I forget): one to tell you when voting begins and another to tell you when awards are available. The other people who entered the contest may be able to see your email address, but no one else will. (If you don't want your email address to be visible on the list or if you don't want to receive any further communications at all, just tell me.)
If you don't give me a personal website URL, I will link your award with your email address to credit you. If you would rather not have me do this, please let me know and I'll make sure your address never appears on the site.
After the contest, I won't use your email address at all.
