Patterns
For help learning to use patterns in the GIMP, see Salli's pattern tutorial. I put these together sometimes when I am feeling bored and my brain is too fried to do anything substantial. I went ahead and made them in pretty colors, since I figure you'll be changing the color, anyway. Right-click and choose "Save As" to save (or whatever works for you) - they are all transparent so they are easy to import directly into your graphics program of choice.
Color Patterns
The following patterns are multi-colored. You can use them as they are, but the real reason I have retained multiple colors is that you can change the color scheme using a program like the GIMP—making it, say, shades of green instead of red—and still have some variation. You can also reduce these down to single-color if you prefer.
